Hypnosis and control of chronic pain.

During a conversation with a doctor, who is a Geriatrician, and Evangelic Pastor, we mentioned the uses of hypnosis and particularly the use of hypnosis to reduce and control pain, particularly chronic pain.

The Doctor said, “I certainly believe that hypnosis works and I have already referred some patients to you, but I always strongly recommend to them, that while using hypnosis they must continue with their medical treatment.”

Hypnosis is very effective in the reduction and control of pain, but it is very important to consult your Doctor or Health Care Professional before using hypnosis to control or reduce pain. The reason is simple. Very often the pain is a symptom that something else is wrong.

The danger here is that a Consulting Hypnotist or Hypnotherapist or Professional of Hypnosis should make sure first that the pain is being treated by a Health Care Professional. Failure to do this could instead of helping cause damage as it could eliminate the pain but no the medical reason for the pain.

A very similar situation is if you want to use hypnosis for better sleep. Insomnia or difficulty for sleeping well can be caused by several medical reasons and it is important that you see a Health Care Professional first, before a Hypnotherapist.

In both cases, hypnosis is very effective. Certainly hypnosis can help reduce and control pain and help you sleep better, but take into account that hypnosis is not a cure. It is a technique that in cases of chronic pain can help thanks to relaxation that occurs during hypnosis, but it is not going to cure the medical problem.
