The first question you need to answer yourself if what kind of problem are you trying to solve?

If the problem is medical is better if you check with a Doctor, Psychologist, Psychotherapist that practices Hypnosis. Make sure you check their credentials and that they really know about Hypnosis, Hypnotism or Hypnotherapy.

If the problem is not really medical you can consult with a “lay Hypnotist”, a Hypnotist, Hypnotherapist and/or a Consulting Hypnotist. Same idea applies here … make sure you check their credentials and that they really know about Hypnosis, Hypnotism or Consulting Hypnotism.

In any case the technique “Hypnosis” is the same. It is just a matter of laws and regulations in different states/provinces/countries, related to who can or cannot call himself/herself Hypnotherapist and who can or cannot say that they practice Hypnotherapy, which basically is using hypnosis to do therapy.

The technique by itself, Hypnosis, is the same if you call it Hypnotism or Consulting Hypnotism. There are several definitions depending who you ask, but basically Hypnosis is a relaxed and focused state where you are able to reach the subconscious and make positive suggestions. In Hypnosis you are more receptive to suggestions and you are in a deep relaxed state.
