Of course been very humble I always answer, Olivier Hidalgo is the best Hypnotherapist in London, Ontario, or Olivier Hidalgo is the best Hypnotist in London, Ontario. LOL.
Marketing aside … in reality I always ask, why do you need to see a hypnotherapist o hypnotist? Please take into account that depending on the country, state or province, Hypnotist is one thing, Hypnotherapist another.
Generally speaking a Hypnotherapist is a Health Care Professional who practices hypnosis. A Hypnotist is “a lay person” who practices hypnosis, a person who is not a Health Care Professional that has studied hypnosis.
Organizations like the National Guild of Hypnotists(NGH) have created a hypnosis certification called Certified Consulting Hypnotist(CCH) who is a person who has a proper training in hypnosis but he or she is not Health Care Professional.
Basically a Hypnotherapist is a person who use hypnosis for therapy related to medical problems. A Consulting Hypnotist is a person who use hypnosis in a motivational way and are not medical related. Sometime a Consulting Hypnotist will work together, as a team, with a Health Care Professional.
So, in my opinion better than asking who is the best hypnotherapist or best hypnotist, the question would be who is the best for my problem. Who is the one that has more experience and training in the problem that I want to solve.
Some times a Doctor might know hypnosis, but do not practice it very often.
Some times a Hypnotist might know a lot about hypnosis, but does not know or do not have experience in the problem you want to solve.
Hypnosis is a very powerful tool, but it is not magic, it is not a cure-all, so my suggestion … first check with your doctor. Can she or he recommend a hypnotist in your area?
If you are looking around for information … ask about experience, training, membership, and testimonials.
When you are talking to a “probably hypnotherapist or hypnotist”, ask him or her …

If the Hypnotist or Hypnotherapist tell you that she or he has never experienced hypnosis. That hypnosis is relaxation, that hypnosis is a special power … well then, look for someone else.
To me … a hypnotist that has never experienced hypnosis is not a hypnotist or hypnotherapist.
Hypnosis is technique or tool that takes you into the hypnotic state. A state of “total focused concentration”.
You can reach total relaxation, mental and physical relaxation, during hypnosis, but you can experience hypnosis without relaxing, you can even experience hypnosis when running or doing exercise.
Hypnosis allows “you” to access your subconscious mind very easily, in a more efficient way and with a purpose. We go into states very similar to hypnosis several times during the day, in a way is a natural state, but when you use hypnosis to access your subconscious you do it with a purpose in mind.
