What's NLP?

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a technique that helps us better communicate with ourselves and others. Basically NLP teaches how the way we communicate with ourselves can creates different results, negatives or positives.

Is is an approach to communication and personal development. It explains the connection between language and mind, between thinking “or the way you talk to yourself” and to others and the results you get in life.

NLP was developed by Richard Bandler and John Grinder, who studied successful individuals and believed that by identifying the pattern of thinking of these successful individuals, we could gain similar success by modelling them. One of the problems with NLP is that there is no many scientific studies about it, compared for example with Hypnosis and Mindfulness Meditation. Of course there are many testimonials of positive results of using NLP. So it is worth noting that we need more scientific research in the value and effectiveness of NLP.

The goal of NLP is to change or modify limiting beliefs, the way of thinking, the interpretation of events to create positive results. NLP is not hypnosis, but many hypnotists and hypnotherapists use a combination of NLP and Hypnosis to obtain positive results. We at NLP Hypnosis Centre use a combination of Hypnosis and NLP to help our clients to reach their goals.

NLP Anchoring is a basic condition of the nervous system. It is pairing of a particular stimulus to a response to create stimulus. A NLP Anchor is a cue which will evoke a particular state in a person.

It is the process by which and stimulus or representation gets connected to and triggers a response. Anchors can occur naturally or be set up intentionally. Anchors are create by repetition, or can be set in a single instance if the emotion is strong enough and the timing is right. For example the word “test” is an anchor for many people to feel anxious.

In extremes situations anchors can trigger very powerful negative state, like phobias.T he good thing is that anchors can be modified or change or create a new one.

They need to be:

Timed just as the state is reaching its peak.
Unique and distinctive.
Easy to repeat exactly.
Linked to a state that is cleanly and completely re-experienced.

Four steeps to create one:

Have a person to recall a past vivid experience.
Provide a specific stimulus at the peak.
Change the person’s state.
Set off the anchor to test.

NLP Anchoring is probably one of the most powerful tools used in NLP. Anchors are used to restructure the internal experience of the client. Change an internal state. Stabilize a state. Change a behaviour. Transfer elements from one experience to another.

General Points About Anchoring:
Duration depends on reinforcement.
Generally the anchor will hold as long as it is ecological to the person.
When installed properly, the client will respond to the anchor whether she/he is conscious or not.
